Stupid Man Suit & Realization Orchestra - July 17th, 2011
Short and Sour - Stupid Man Suit and Realization Orchestra (L.A. / CalArts)
First of all, we really appreciate the chance to curate a racer session. We are excited to share our scene with yours and meet/play with some great improvisers. This will be the 15th stop on our debut west coast tour - two bands touring together as a double bill. Playing progressive music to a new unsuspecting audience every night requires adaptability and sensitivity to one’s surroundings - it is necessary to get our musical point across to the listener as quickly and succinctly as possible. This means sometimes playing short sets, building improvised sections quickly, rapid juxtapositions of composition and improvisation, and of course putting as much energy and pungency as possible through the instrument. We will do abbreviated versions of our normal sets, and for the night’s improvisations we would like to hear some very short yet intense pieces, and pieces which turn on a dime rather than morphing slowly from one idea to the next.
Thank you all so much for having us. We will be playing our full sets at Black Lodge on Saturday evening with Operation ID, and also at Gallery 1412 at 2PM on Sunday. See you there.
