I don’t have much of a concept worked for this session in terms of the actual music we’re going to be playing. Though that’s not meant to sound like it’s being taken lightly. Music and the opportunity to play it with other like-minded players is a sacred thing, and I’m very much looking forward to playing with the Seattle community again. If I can give any type of direction for improv session I’d just say this. Don’t think too much about the right notes or the right rhythms or the right textures. Don’t think about the timbre of your instrument or exercises to play. Don’t think about music at all. Instead, take a minute to to think about those you love. Those who have helped shape who you are today. Once you have a few in mind who you’d like to focus on, take that feeling and play your ass off.
Looking forward to seeing the Seattle folks!
This week’s session will take place at 5465 Leary Ave NW in Ballard. Prior to the session, local apparel company Blackbird is hosting a rummage sale at this space from 9:00am to 6:00pm, the proceeds of which will benefit families of the shooting victims of May 30th. Everyone is invited to donate to the sale any unneeded items (clothing, furniture, books, etc.) that are in good condition.
