Greetings, Racers!

This Sunday at 8pm, we’ll be presenting guitarist Max Walker. Local to Seattle but with roots throughout North America and Europe, Max’s music features original compositions inspired by Allan Holdsworth, Tim Miller, and Irish traditional music. This time around, he will be bringing his unique compositional and improvisatory voice to a trio setting, backed by Remy Morritt (drums) and Tim Carey (bass).

Some words from Max:

“I'm very excited to be bringing my trio to the Racer Sessions! In a sense, this project has been my attempt at moving on from the musician that I was while studying at Cornish.

“For a number of these pieces, I was inspired by many of the traditional Irish ballads that I grew up listening to. The vocalist would sing in a conversational tone without much regard for fitting into a traditional meter, and accompanists would have to follow as best they could. In a similar way, I wrote much of this music trying to match the rhythmic cadence of my speech, and figured out the meters after the fact.”
